About Self Storage Marketing Company
Self Storage Marketing Company is operated and based in Austin, Texas. Our background is agency search work, including search and advertising accounts for 39 small businesses at a UK digital marketing agency, which is where the habit of plain monthly reports comes from. The business started after looking at a sample of independently owned facilities that were showing up less in their own towns' search results while paying marketplaces per move-in to be found.
Self-storage is new for us; we have no self-storage clients yet. The case study is from another field.
There is no sales layer. The people who read your ranking check are the people who build your pages and write your report. Email reaches them directly: contact@selfstoragemarketingcompany.com.
What we thinkAbout storage search
Six things we think about self-storage search
- Independents own most of the facilities. Small independent owner-operators held 65.9% of US facilities and 52.9% of rentable square footage in 2024; publicly traded companies held 20.9% and 28.5%. Self-Storage Almanac 2025, Section 2.
- A facility's site should rank for the facility's own name. When a marketplace page outranks it, a renter who was already looking for you can arrive through the marketplace and carry its fee. That is the first thing to check.
- The drive-by renter searches too. More than 30% of leads still come from people driving past, and over 69% of renters travel less than 20 minutes to their unit. They look the facility up before they call, so the sign and the profile do the same job. Self-Storage Almanac 2025 and 2024.
- The business name is the name on the sign. Google can suspend a profile whose name is padded with phrases like "cheap units near me".
- Office hours go on the profile; gate hours go in the description and on the site. That is what Google asks of storage facilities.
- Every renter is asked for a review the same way, with no incentive. Google's policy bars incentives and asking only happy customers. The FTC's rule bans fake reviews, paying for reviews that must be positive or negative, and using threats or false accusations to get reviews removed.
